After taking a long hiatus from the organization, Langgam is now back to work!  With it comes a new and passionate set of board members at the helm, bringing fresh and innovative perspectives in contemporary performance-making and cultural work, and basically taking the Year of the Fire Horse by storm.

While Jenny, Blonski, and Jacq still remain in the board to continue a decade’s worth of Langgam legacy, the new members, Serena Magiliw and Jaz Ayran, join in to offer fresh insights into the future direction of the company. Aligned in performance practice while also sharing similar values and interests in keeping a progressive and innovative work environment in the arts, the combined expertise and experience of the new board of directors will surely pave way to a new chapter of contemporary performance-making and independent cultural work.

Serena Magiliw

Serena Magiliw (she/they) is a Manila-based independent transpinay actor, performance-maker, and cultural worker. Her works employ practice-based research, counter-narratives, and transmedia storytelling to highlight the lived experiences of queer and trans folx—inviting deeper understanding of resistance against cistems of power. A young and emerging artist in the field of theater, film, and contemporary arts, Magiliw brings an innovative vision into the team. To know more about Magiliw, you may find her profile here.

Jaz Ayran

Towards a New Book Writing Itself

One of the last board meetings with Joel (taken late 2024)

After Joel’s unexpected passing in mid-2025, and after taking space and distance from Langgam to grieve and recover, the remaining board of directors (Jacq, Blonski, and Jenny) soon realize that the only way to keep Joel’s legacy alive is to keep Langgam’s legacy alive too. Langgam was Joel’s primary artistic home where he invested most of his talent and wisdom to build the community around it. It would be amiss for the company to forego the legacy that they co-built with him. This became the impetus for Jenny, Blonski, and Jacq to continue by rebuilding the board of directors, taking the experience and lessons from the past and transforming them into a newly re-envisioned team that is forward-thinking both in mindset and practice.

An old chapter has indeed closed. But a new book is about to write itself.
