PAST WORKSHOPS

THE CINEMATIC STAGE (April-May 2021)

A film analysis class that explored and discussed cinema’s depiction of an ancient art form known as the theater. Through a curated line-up of films, the class traversed through time periods, countries, cultures, and narrative voices to discover how a modern artform (cinema) would view, reflect, and portray a more traditional artform (theater).

Langgam Performance Troupe believes in an interdisciplinary approach to the study and practice of theater and performance, and studying films is no exception. This seven-week course consisted of weekly film viewings, group discussions and a culminating activity.

TUESDAY THEORIES (September 2020-January 2021)

A monthly online crash course that reviewed theories on theater, drama, and performance. Facilitated by LPT's Artistic Director, Jenny Logico-Cruz, this reading-intensive class introduced students to various philosophies, conceptual models, and manifestos in theatrical history that have informed and established many of the world’s performance practices. Students engaged in critical analysis, in-depth group discussions, and practical application of theories by learning how to devise creative productions based on curated theoretical frameworks and research processes.

SCENES OF UNDERSTANDING (November-January 2021)

An online theater and drama course designed to deepen one's sense of empathy, or the ability to understand another person's situation and point-of-view that are completely different from ours. Utilizing theater and drama as the primary platforms to explore areas of empathy, this course examined through selected dramatic works that presented complex and challenging characters which compelled us to further analyze, acknowledge, listen, and validate their motivations, decisions, and thought processes. The course also engaged the participants with performance exercises that enhanced one's capacity to understand and foster compassion, not only for chosen dramatic characters, but for the complexities of human nature at large

THROWLINES THURSDAYS (June-August 2020)

An online scene study class. Throwlines Thursdays functioned as 1) a gym for actors in which we continue to flex, train, and strengthen our acting muscle while productions are on hiatus; and 2) a support study group for performers, directors, writers, and even theater enthusiasts who are interested to learn more about classical & contemporary dramatic scenes as we further fine-tune our analytical scene work skills.

SOMEWHERE ELSE INSTEAD WORKSHOP (October 2019)

Held at Lipa Actors Company's LBX Studio in Lipa, Batangas during LPT's tour of Somewhere Else Instead, this workshop was designed to impart the techniques and methods used during the making of Somewhere Else Instead. Workshop participants were composed of audience and company members of Lipa Actors Company, and had the opportunity to experiment with the portable staircase, the scenographic object of Somewhere Else Instead.

THE PERSONAL SPECTACLE WORKSHOP (November 2018)

A laboratory workshop that explores the art of solo performance. The course provided historical and cultural framework in what it means to pursue and practice solo performance, and laid out tools and techniques that enabled participants to explore, define, and claim their individual performance style and narrative without having to compromise criticial aesthetic distance.
